The world may have lost William Shakespeare’s play “Love’s Labour’s Won” but there are several untiring and determined human rights activists, who keep working out of their care and love for rights of the labor, to ensure that laborers win their rightful share in the unequal world.
Syed Ghulam Fatima is one such individual, whose work for protection of dignity of labor has won her international acclaim.
Fatima’s work as activist and general secretary of the Bonded Labor Liberation Front Pakistan (BLLF), has earned her Clinton Global Citizen Award 2015.
She demonstrated leadership in civil society, and has been a strong advocate in in ensuring legal entitlements of the brick kiln laborers, and female domestic workers, as guaranteed under International Labor Organization.
Fatima has also contributed to efforts to abolish bonded labor Pakistan’s Punjab province.
The Clinton Global Citizen Award will undoubtedly inspire and strengthen Fatima and other rights workers but it would require concerted efforts by the state and the society that laborers get their due rights, dignity and earning, and that their labor ultimately wins.
