Clinton ahead in new poll; Voters want Trump to cut business ties

Clinton beats Trump by 47% to 42% margin

Democrat Hillary Clinton overtakes Republican Donald Trump by a 47% to 42% margin in the race for the presidency, according to a new poll that finds both candidates lacking in excitement among majority of voters.

The CNN/ORC Poll reveals just 22% of registered voters say their minds could change between now and November.

Both Trump and Clinton are viewed unfavorably by nearly 60 percent of US voters, while fewer than 30 percent would be excited by either candidate’s presidency, according to the poll.

The poll also found that 56 percent would be afraid and also feel embarrassed if Trump is elected, while 46 percent feel the same about Clinton.

The trends reveal that neither candidate has gained universal support within their own party. Among Democrats and Democratic-leaning voters, 55 percent say they would pick Clinton as their party’s nominee, whereas 43 percent say they would pick Democratic rival Bernie Sanders.

On the Republican side, 51 percent of Republican and Republican-leaning voters say the party should nominate Trump and 48 percent would prefer someone else.

The same poll says that around 7-in-10 voters think Trump should step down as chairman and president of the Trump Organization during the political campaign.

The CNN reported that the results coincide with Trump’s travel  to Scotland for the grand re-opening of a golf course he owns there.

A majority 69% say of voters say Trump ought to step down, 28% think he should continue to run his eponymous company, the channel reported.
