After months of consideration, Hillary Clinton Friday picked Virginia Senator Time Kaine as her running vice presidential mate for November 8 election, hoping to draw on his long experience with battleground state politics.
Kaine, 58, has served as governor of Virginia, and was even on the list potential vice president picks for Barack Obama eight years ago.
Over the last decade, Kaine has risen steadily as a leading Democrat, serving as Virginia governor from 2006 to 2010. He became Democratic senator in 2012. He was among top prospective candidates to run as President Barack Obama’s mate for 2008 election campaign. He was also chairman of the National Democratic Committee between 2009 and 2011.
Kaine joined the Democratic presumptive nominee in Virginia earlier this month as as she weighed options for her running mate ahead of Democratic National Convention.
Analysts say Kaine, who also speaks Spanish and his middle class roots could be greatly helpful for Clinton, who will fight Republican Donald Trump.
