In a likely major boost for Democratic presumptive nominee former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg will endorse Hillary Clinton during his speech at the Democratic National Convention on Monday.
The news by The New York Times, citing a Bloomberg advisor, came on the eve of the DNC as Americans gear into an intense political fight for presidency from November 8 election. Donald Trump secured Republican nomination this week.
Bloomberg will deliver a prime-time address at the DNC Monday to express his support for Clinton. Bloomberg who was elected NYC mayor as a Republican later became an independent, and has not been associated with the Democratic Party since 2000.
The decision by Bloomberg, a popular figure, media mogul and philanthropist, represents opposition to Trump, who has been peddling positions and rhetoric against immigrants, who are a big factor in driving the New York economy.
Bloomberg will vouch for Mrs. Clinton “from the perspective of a business leader and an independent,” said Howard Wolfson, a senior adviser to Bloomberg told the Times
