Endorsing Hillary Clinton, Warren Buffett censured Donald Trump’s claim to sacrifice that the Republican candidate made in response to criticism by father of a slain American military hero that Trump had sacrificed nothing for the United States.
“How in the world can you stand up to a couple of parents who lost a son and talk about sacrificing because you were building a bunch of buildings?” Buffett, one of the richest investors in the world, said.
Speaking at a rally in his hometown Omaha, Buffett noted neither his family and nor Trump’s had sacrificed the way American Muslim parents – Khizr Khan and Ghazala Khan – made with the loss of their military officer son in service of the United States.
“No member of the Buffett family has gone to Iraq or Afghanistan. No member of the Trump family has gone to Iraq or Afghanistan. Donald Trump and I haven’t sacrificed anything,” he remarked.
Khizr Khan delivered a scathing criticism of Trump in a speech at the Democratic National Convention last week, challenging the real estate tycoon if he had read the US Constitution or sacrificed anything for the country.
Trump fired back at the Khans in his usual style, drawing widespread criticism from Republicans and Democrats for hurling insults at the Gold Star parents, whose son died in Iraq.
Buffett also challenged Trump on making public his tax returns.
“I’ll bring my return, he’ll bring his return, we’re both under audit,” Buffett said. “You will learn a whole lot more about Donald Trump if he produces his income tax returns.”
