Hillary Clinton is expected to pitch her “aspirational vision” for supporting children and families as well as echo the message of strength in political unity, returning from a few days of absence from the campaign trail due to Pneumonia
But there is going to be no respite for the Democratic candidate in the intense political fight with Republican rival Donald Trump, who has closed gaps in poll numbers in recent days.
Meanwhile, President Barack Obama and former president Bill Clinton have been campaigning for Hillary Clinton resting at her home after being diagnosed on Friday with what her doctor described as a “mild bacterial pneumonia.”
The former secretary of state sought to assuage anxieties about her health in a radio interview.
“We really want to respond to legitimate questions that people might have,” Clinton said. “I’m very touched by the concern that’s been set forth about my health.”
Recent polls in Ohio and Florida show Trump has caught up with Clinton, eroding the advantage she had accumulated.
Scheduled to speak at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro Thursday afternoon, Clinton, however, appears to have a clear-cut and huge support among African Americans and American Muslims.
“A lot of people in our community are not thrilled about Hillary Clinton because of her foreign policy record in the Muslim world,” said Dawud Walid, executive director of the Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
“But more people are scared of the wolf than of the fox, even though both can eat your chickens. There are people volunteering in the Hillary Clinton campaign.”
Michigan is home to about 500,000 Muslims, Walid said, one of the highest concentrations in the U.S.
In the Democratic presidential primary, Senator Bernie Sanders secured a lot of votes among young people including Muslims. But Democratic Party watchers say a lot of young people now appear to back Hillary Clinton.
On the othere hand, Trump’s incessant attacks against American Muslims have pushed them further into the Democratic fold, where politicians often stress the message of pluralism and inclusiveness.
Trump has support of an interfaith coalition group. The real estate tycoon has regretted some of the things he said in the heat of the debate but a broader Trump outreach to American Muslims has not materialized yet on the campaign trail.
