In a statement likely to boomerang on his campaign odds, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has said that derogatory remarks he has made toward women were all for the sake of “entertainment.”
Trump appeared to argue in an interview days ahead of second presidential debate the remarks against women did not reflect his true feelings as he respected women.
“A lot of that was done for the purpose of entertainment; there’s nobody that has more respect for women than I do,” the real estate mogul told Las Vegas’ KSNV-TV.
“Are you trying to tone it down now?” journalist Jim Snyder asked Trump when the presidential candidate appeared for the interview ahead of a rally in Nevada.
“It’s not a question of trying; it’s very easy,” Trump responded.
Remarks against women are one part of Trump’s tirades in the election season against different segments of the society including Latinos, Muslims and immigrants
But after his latest revelation that his outbursts against women were just for sake of entertainment have led to a focus on his record of anti-women comments over the last several years.
His rival Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton is likely to attack Trump on the issue Several ads recently sho Trump disparaging women for their physiques and appearances.
Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly and former Miss Universe Alicia Machado, are among women Trump has targeted in words rarely, if ever, used by a presidential candidate during the course of a presidential campaign.
