President-elect Donald Trump Wedneseday indicated his willingness to work cooperatively with Pakistan on addressing “outstanding problems” and saw “tremendous opportunities” in the South Asian country.
He also praised Pakistanis as intelligent and amazing people as Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif called Trump to congratulate on his election victory.
“I am ready and willing to play any role that you want me to play to address and find solutions to the outstanding problems. It will be an honour and I will personally do it,” Trump said according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office in Islamabad.
During the telephonic conversation, Trump asked Sharif to “feel free to call me any time even before 20th January that is before I assume my office.”
On being invited to visit Pakistan by the Sharif, the president-elect said he would love to come to a “fantastic country, fantastic place of fantastic people.”
“Please convey to the Pakistani people that they are amazing and all Pakistanis I have known are exceptional people,” he added, according to the statement.
According to the statement, Trump noted Prime Minister Sharif had a very good reputation and looking forward to seeing him soon.
“Your country is amazing with tremendous opportunities. Pakistanis are one of the most intelligent people,” Donald Trump said.
On the campaign trail before Novmber 8 election, Trump had said if elected to the White House, he would be willing to mediate between Pakistan and India to resolve their tensions provided both countries wanted him to do so.
