President Donald Trump has indicated that it could take a year before a replacement of affordable healthcare is ready.
During a Fox News interview, Trump told Bill O’Reilly that Americans should expect a new healthcare plan into next year.
“Yes, in the process and maybe it’ll take till sometime into next year but we’re certainly going to be in the process,” Trump said.
“You have to remember Obamacare doesn’t work so we are putting in a wonderful plan,” the president said, without committing to a specific time-frame.
Soon after moving into the White House, the president had issued an order to express his administration intention to repeal and replace the healthcare plan. Analysts say Capitol Hill and the Trump Administration have much work to do ahead in legislating a plan that could provide health coverage to millions of Americans.
“It statutorily takes a while to get. We’re going to be putting it in fairly soon, I think that yes I would like to say by the end of the year at least the rudiments but we should have something within the year and the following year.”
Trump also noted that the work to replace health plan under Affordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare is “very complicated.”
Republican lawmakers have also indicated that an alternative plan is not coming anytime soon.
Meanwhile, over 9.2 million people have signed up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act during the open enrollment season that ended on January 31.
Last year, around 9.6 million citizens had signed up for the plan.
