The United States has strongly condemned Thursday’s terror attack against peaceful worshipers at one of Pakistan’s most revered Sufi shrines.
The death toll reached 72 from the deadly bombing shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in Sehwan, Sindh. Â The ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack. According to some media accounts, ISIS, which has been operating in Afghanistan for more than a year, has moved its militants to Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
“We extend our condolences to the victims and their families and wish a full recovery for all of those injured. We also offer our support to the Government of Pakistan as it works to bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice,” Acting Spokesman Mark Toner said in a State Department statement.
The attack on the shrine of the devotee-filled compound of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar attack was the latest in a wave of bombings that have hit this past week gatherings and officials in Lahore, Balochistan, Peshawar and Mohmand Agency.
“We stand with the people of Pakistan in their fight against terrorism and remain committed to the security of the South Asia region.
“We will continue to work with the Government of Pakistan and our partners across the region to combat the threat of terrorism,” the statement said.
