Imran Khan’s former wife Jemima Khan has said that she has traced15-year-old statements to prove the Pakistan Tehrik e Insaaf leader’s innocence in the court, where the PML (N) government is trying to deflect spotlight from a corruption case against Prime Minister Sharif.
Sharif and his party are seeking a Court and public focus on Imran Khan’s property and the financial records as to how the former cricketer owned the property, in Bani Gala, Islamabad.
The cases against Imran Khan in the Supreme Court and Election Commission of Pakistan have been brought amid widespread perceptions that the Sharifs are trying to escape the limelight as they face scrutiny following the Supreme Court order that a special investigation tam find out how the Sharif family built a big business empire by stashing unaccounted for national wealth in foreign countries.
The petitions in the Election Commission and the Supreme Court seek disqualification of Imran Khan from the National Assembly representation, arguing that he did not disclose his property to the ECP as required under the rules.
Jemima sent out a twitter message in support of Imran Khan.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sharif’s son Hussain Nawaz appeared before the Joint Investigation Team probing the Sharif family in connection with a high-profile corruption case, known in the national discourse as the Panamagate Case, that is looking into how the family was able to finance, buy and own flats in London.
Hussain Nawaz claimed there was no evidence against the family.
“It is up to the JIT whether they were satisfied or not.”
“When there is no evidence of irregularities against us, how will it come out,” he said according to media reports.
Nawaz said he was made to wait for two hours to appear before the JIT.
The case against the Sharif family is being seen as litmus test of Pakistani democracy and judicial system as Nawaz Sharif and his brother Shahbaz Sharif, who have ruled Pakistan and the largest Punjab province for unprecedented terms, wiled political and administrative powers. Along with former president Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan Peoples Party, the Sharifs are perceived as the corruption-tainted figures on the national political scene.
With the 2018 election coming up, the Panamagte case has high-stakes importance for Pakistani polity.
