Vanessa O’Brien, the first American woman to climb the world’s second highest mountain, K2, says she is a fan of Pakistan.
The accomplished mountain climber attended an event the Pakistani Embassy in Washington D.C. hosted in her honor.
Ms. O’Brien is the first British American woman to achieve the distinction of making it to the top of K2, in Pakistan’s north, and photos of her unfolding the Pakistani flag this summer hit the South Asian country’s media, winning praise from the nation.
Describing herself as “a fan of Pakistan,” Ms O’Brian said Pakistan is a beautiful country with rich cultural heritage and with the most hospitable people. A country that has a lot to offer in addition to the fabulous mountains.
“I was lucky to know the great people and the country of Pakistan during my expedition”, she added.
Ambassador Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, while appreciating Ms. O’Brien’s expression of warm feelings for Pakistan said that her story and personality is an “inspiration for all of us.”
The Pakistani diplomat greatly appreciated the perseverance, patience and dedication of Ms. O’Brien during her 03 yrs expedition in scaling K-2 in Pakistan and her friendship with the people of Pakistan.
Ms. O’Brian was invited by the Ambassador Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry to speak to the staff of the Embassy honoring her friendship with Pakistan. She presented a flag of Pakistan with her signatures to the Ambassador. The signatures carried the message “From K2:To Pakistan with Love”.
