Governor Ralph Northam’s office has announced a schedule for 2018 Virginia Governor’s Fellows Program that offers a select group of “outstanding and highly motivated individuals” the opportunity to experience firsthand the administration of state government in the Commonwealth.
The applicants could be rising college seniors, graduating college seniors or enrolled as degree candidates in a graduate/professional school, enrolled in a Virginia college/university or a Virginia resident enrolled in an out-of-state institution.
As listed on the governor’s website http://governor.virginia.gov/fellows/ the qualified applicants are required to be committed to excellence in academics, able to demonstrate leadership ability, involved in extracurricular activities and be active in community service.
Here are important dates for the program.

Under the program, selected participants are placed in different positions in the Governor’s Office and in various agencies throughout the Executive Branch.
The program attempts to match Fellows with compatible assignments according to background, interests and future goals.
Applicants who will require financial assistance should discuss options with school officials before applying, the governor’s office says.
State funds are not allocated for the Governor’s Fellows Program. However, in previous years, colleges and universities have distributed stipends to the Fellows selected from their institutions. Institutions are urged to make summer grants available, the office says.
