Americans use multiple social media platforms in early 2018 with Facebook and YouTube dominating the landscape while Snapchat and Instagram being favorites with majority of young people.
A new Pew Research Center survey says nearly two-thirds of U.S. adults (68%) are Facebook users. Of these users, around three-quarters access the site every day. Additionally, barring people aged 65 and older, a majority of Americans across a wide range of demographic groups now use Facebook, the Research Center said.
YouTube is now used by nearly three-quarters of U.S. adults and 94% of 18- to 24-year-olds.
With the younger Americans (ages 18 to 24) Snapchat and Instagram are among the most widely used platforms.
According to the survey, some 78% of 18- to 24-year-olds use Snapchat, a majority (71%) visiting the platform several times a day.
Similarly, 71% of Americans in this age group now use Instagram and about half (45%) are Twitter users.
Among other platforms, the Pew findings suggest that Pinterest remains substantially more popular with women, with 41% saying they use the site compared with 16% men using it.
The professional networking platform LinkedIn is popular among college graduates and those in high-income households. Around 50% of Americans with a college degree use LinkedIn, compared with just 9% of those with a high school diploma or less, the Pew says.
