Celebrating the 78th Pakistan Day with a traditional show of military prowess, Islamabad has said it stands for peace in the region.
Speaking at a parade in the capital, President Mamnoon Hussain asked India to peacefully resolve the long standing issue of Kashmir.
” Pakistan stands for peace in the (South Asian) region and beyond and gives a message of peace to those who don,t want it,” Hussain added.
His remarks come amid flaring up Pakistan-India tensions in the disputed Kashmir region.
The global scenario had changed manifold and now countries could not be coerced to toe line of one particular country, the president said in a reference to Narendra Modi-led New Delhi’s desire for hegemony in the region.
Commenting on Indian shelling from across the Line of Control in Kashmir and unabated human rights violations in the Indian-administered Kashmir, president said with these peace subversive tactics, Pakistan’s neighbor had put the regional peace at stake.
The president also cautioned against exploitation, suppression of nations and interference in the internal affairs of the countries.
President of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi an services chiefs attended the ceremony.
On Afghanistan, Mamnoon Hussain said Pakistan will continue its efforts for a peaceful resolution of the Afghan issue.
He praised the Pakistani military operations against terrorists, Zarb-e-Azb and Radd-ul-Fasad, and commended sacrifices the troops and law enforcement personnel rendered.
