The State Department is resuming hiring of foreign service and civil service personnel to current funding levels after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo issued a memo, according to The Hill newspaper website.
“Earlier this month I directed that our employed family members would be treated fairly in seeking to use their skills to deliver our mission,” Pompeo said in a memo The Hill obtained.
“Today I am lifting the Department’s hiring freeze on Foreign Service and Civil Service and authorizing the Department of State to hire to current funding level,” the top American diplomat added.Pompeo’s predecessor Rex Tillerson had ordered a partial freeze on State Department hiring in a move that drew criticism from experts and the State Department employees.
