Marham, a Pakistani startup connecting people with healthcare experts online, won recognition at the Google Demo Day Asia held in Shanghai on Friday, winning the Audience Choice Award.
The audience at the Demo Day – which brought together ten of the most promising Asian digital companies – were also given a chance to vote for their favorite startup.
The Marham, which in Urdu language means bandage, describes itself as the leading digital healthcare platform in Pakistan helping people to find, book and consult doctors online. The startup was established three years back with an aim of transforming the healthcare experience for the people of Pakistan, it says.
‘It feels surreal to be recognized by the audience at the Google Demo Day. I owe this award to my entire Marham Team who’ve taken us to this point. We’re now more motivated than ever before and this will help us in achieving global outreach and a greater social impact in Pakistan.,” Ehsan Imam, founder of the platform, said.
Marham was the only startup from Pakistan invited to pitch at the Google Demo Day Asia.
The team has made full use of this opportunity by making Pakistan proud on the stage of the Demo Day, Marham said in a statement.
“This award is a testament for the entire world that the startup ecosystem in Pakistan is thriving with successful and brilliant entrepreneurs.”
The Demo Day Asia journey isn’t over yet and every finalist will have a chance for success following their presentations on this global stage.
Startups from our past eight Demo Days have raised over $279M since 2014, and startups in our Google for Entrepreneurs Network have raised over $1.8B in funding and created 20,000 new jobs globally.
According to the tech giant’s Demo Day announcement, Google brings together a group of “compelling investable companies, from around the world to highlight innovative technology and drive investment.”
