Asad Majeed Khan to be Pakistan’s new ambassador in Washington

Khan, a career diplomat, will replace Ali Jehangir Siddiqui

Pakistan will appoint Dr. Asad Majeed Khan, a career diplomat, as its new ambassador to the United States, replacing the current envoy Ali Jehangir Siddiqui.

Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government has approved the nomination, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi revealed Friday, ending weeks of speculations about the government’s position on ambassadors appointed by the previous PML(N) government.

Khan served as deputy chief of the mission in Washington under the PPP government He also represented the country as ambassador in Tokyo.

Khan’s appointment comes as relations between the United States and Pakistan remain strained over Afghanistan.
