The United States condemns in the strongest terms today’s terrorist attacks in Orakzai and Karachi, Pakistan, which killed over 30 people and injured dozens more, the State Department said Friday.
“We send our deepest condolences to the victims’ families and wish for the speedy recovery of those injured,” State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said.
The statement came hours after terrorists killed several people in Orgakzai in the northwest of the country, and attacked the Chinese Consulate in the port city of Karachi, rocking the relative calm in the wake of a significant reduction in terrorist attacks in the country.
Terrorists have been attacking the Pakistani state and people since it joined the international coalition to combat militant outfits in the wake of 9/11 terror attacks. A number of al-Qaeda linked terrorists spilled over into Pakistani tribal areas from Afghanistan when the U.S. and its partners toppled the Taliban government in Afghanistan in late 2001.
In the State Department statement, the spokesperson applauded the courageous response Pakistani security forces mounted in combating terrorists.
“We also commend the Pakistani security forces’ quick and brave response to the attack on the Chinese Consulate in Karachi that prevented further loss of life.”
“The United States stands with the Pakistani people in the face of these terrorist acts, and will continue to seek opportunities to cooperate with the Pakistani government to combat these threats in the region.”
