Islamabad’s top diplomat in Washington has described U.S-Pakistan cooperation on educational advancement as a pillar of the bilateral relationship.
“There is a need to explore more educational opportunities and to intensify our efforts to have cooperation to foster growth of academics, writers and thinkers in the sphere of education,” Ambassador Asad M Khan said.
He was speaking at an event organized in collaboration with American Institute of Pakistan Studies (AIPS) and the Centre for Public Policy and Governance to celebrate the life and contributions of Dr. Hafeez Malik, a veteran scholar and renowned academician.
Ambassador Khan praised the services of Dr. Malik and applauded the critical role the AIPS has played over the years toward promoting the rich history and culture of Pakistan.
Educational cooperation is one of the areas that Prime Minister Imran Khan is likely to discuss during his visit to Washington D.C. where he will hold talks with President Donald Trump on July 22 and also have meetings other senior American officials.
A panel of eminent academics paid rich tribute to the accomplishments of Dr. Malik, while highlighting his remarkable efforts in establishing an academic identity for Pakistan and Pakistani-Americans, the embassy said.
The panelists recalled his contributions that laid the foundation of American Institute of Pakistan Studies (AIPS), which since its establishment has been instrumental in promoting academic exchanges between Pakistan and the United States.
In his remarks, Senator Waleed Iqbal recounted a number of Dr. Malik’s scholarly writings, particularly the ones he had authored and co-authored on the works of Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal. He appreciated Dr. Malik’s quality writings and research which aim at establishing Pakistan’s unique identity and have paved the way for people to understand Pakistan better in the United States.
The event was attended by educationists, researchers, academics and members of the Pakistani-American community as well as the State Department officials.
