Just before the UN Security Council met to look at the spiraling Kashmir tensions between Pakistan and India, Prime Minister Imran Khan Friday called President Donald Trump to secure understanding and support for Islamabad’s position on the issue.
“PM Imran Khan had a telephonic conversation with US President Trump ahead of UN Security Council session,” the official Imran Khan Facebook said.
Pakistan has established contact with 4 out of 5 permanent members of the UN Security Council, the FB post added.
Earlier, PM Khan launched a scathing attack on his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi’s “fascist” policies, especially the BJP Government’s unilateral decision to annex the disputed Jammu and Kashmir territory.
The UNSC is holding a consultative meeting to weigh whether it should go into an emergency session on Kashmir in response to Pakistan’s request that the matter be treated urgently as the Kashmir situation poses a serious threat to peace and security in South Asia.
Pakistan and India, the two nuclear-armed neighbors are locked in tense diplomatic, political and military confrontation since Modi’s dangerous move to integrate Kashmir into India against the wishes of the Kashmiri people living on the territory under Indian control.
