The United States recorded its highest number of COVD-19 cases for a single day on Thursday since outbreak of the pandemic as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said Thursday the actual number of infections in the country could be ten times higher than officially known.
With California, Florida and Texas reporting a surge in infections, the U.S. tally of new cases touched 40,000.
The CDC statement means the actual numbr of cases across the country could be around 25 million.
According to CDC Director Robert Redfield blood sample assessment indicates millions of people might have contracted the coronavirus but without any clear symptoms.

Countrywide, 26 states including Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming have shown a jump in COVID-19 cases.
California, Texas and Florida are among the nation’s largest populations. The soaring number of COVID-19 cases have delayed reopening plans of states.
