Nobel Laureate and global icon for women’s rights Malala Yousafzai has landed in Pakistan for the first time nearly six years after she survived a vicious Taliban attack in her hometown Swat.
Malala, who has become a worldwide advocate for girls’ right to education, will meet with Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in Islambad.
According to Pakistan Today newspaper, a special program titled “Meet The Malala” will be held at the PM House.
She is being provided security in view of her challenge to the militant mindset, and her full itinerary has not been released.
Malala was 15, when she was shot by the Taliban in October 2012 from a close range while returning home from school.
After her medical treatment, Malala recovered to soar to international fame and is now living in Britain where the trademark Malala Fund is devoted to the cause of education for girls.
At age 17, Malala won the Nobel Peace Prize, becoming the youngest-ever recipient of the award.
Since then, Malala has traveled through several parts of the world including the United States and has addressed the United Nations, receiving widespread support for her education mission.
