President-elect Donald Trump has said he would be separating himself from his business empire to focus on his presidency in a way that there is no conflict of interest.
Trump, who is due to begin his White House term on January 20, 2017 Wednesday said he intends to hold a news conference in the middle of December to discuss his decision.
He also tweeted that legal documents are being readied to keep himself out of business operations.
“The Presidency is a far more important task!” he said in a series of messages posted on his twitter account.
Trump’s statements come in the midst of ongoing discussions how he would be able to run his administration as well as a large business empire and avoid a conflict of interests.
Here are the tweets he posted on Wednesday.
“I will be holding a major news conference in New York City with my children on December 15 to discuss the fact that I will be leaving my great business in total in order to fully focus on running the country in order to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
While I am not mandated to do this under the law, I feel it is visually important, as President, to in no way have a conflict of interest with my various businesses..
Hence, legal documents are being crafted which take me completely out of business operations. The Presidency is a far more important task!”
