President Donald Trump could issue a new travel ban “to make our country safe” as early as next week as his January 27 executive order temporarily halting travelers from seven countries remain in limbo in the face of legal challenges.

The indications for the new action came from the president first during his joint appearance with Japanese Prime Ministerer Sinzo Abe and later during an interaction with the media aboard Air Force One.

But it is unclear at the moment if the new measure will be a completely rewritten version or come with additional details that may pass legal requirements for such an action to remain in force in place of the currently suspended order.

“We’ll be doing something very rapidly having to do with additional security for our country,” Trump said after talks with the Japanese leader.

“You’ll be seeing that some time next week,” he said, answering a question as the ban remained frozen, allowing people with American visas from seven Muslim majority Middle Eastern and African countries including Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen to enter the United States.

“We’ll be going forward and we’ll be doing things to continue to make our country safe,” the president remarked

“It will happen rapidly and we will not allow people into our country who are looking to do harm to our people.”

Meanwhile, the White House has vowed to contest court battles over the suspended executive order, after a panel of three judges of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously ruled to keep the order on hold, as decided by a federal judge in Seattle.

Later, Trump was more explicit in bringing another measure, when he told reporters told reporters aboard Air Force One that he would until early next week before going ahead with an order.

“We will win that battle,” the president said, according to The Washington Post.

“The unfortunate part is that it takes time statutorily, but we will win that battle. We also have a lot of other options, including just filing a brand-new order.”

According to the Post, Trump indicated revisions could include “new security measures.”
